Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know exactly what kind of birth I want in order to hire a doula?

Not at all. Many of our clients reach out before they’ve made any decisions about their birth plan or provider. Your doula is here to help you explore your options, not to push you toward any particular path. You don’t need a plan to get started, just a willingness to be supported.

What kinds of births do you support?

All of them. We support hospital births, home births, and birth center births. We attend unmedicated labors, epidurals, inductions, cesareans, VBACs, surrogacy, and more. Our focus is not on how you give birth, it’s on how you feel, how you’re supported, and how your voice is honored throughout the process.

Do you work with partners, or just the birthing person?

Both. We love working with partners and believe they deserve support, too. Your doula doesn’t replace your partner, they enhance their ability to support you with confidence, clarity, and calm. We help everyone in the room feel more grounded and connected.

How is a doula different from my provider or nurse?

Your provider (OB, midwife, etc.) is responsible for your clinical care. Your doula offers continuous emotional, physical, and informational support that complements that care. We’re not here to replace anyone, we’re here to fill the gap that often exists between medical oversight and human connection.

What’s included in birth doula support?

Every doula relationship includes prenatal visits, continuous labor and birth support, and a postpartum follow-up. We also offer education, check-ins, and access to additional support services based on your needs. All of it is tailored to you.

Will I still have access to my doula if I need extra support?

Absolutely. Within the boundaries of our on-call structure, your doula is available for questions, reassurance, and connection throughout your care. And because we work as a team, there’s always someone available if extra support is needed.

What if my doula can’t make it to my birth?

You’ll always have a backup doula, someone you’ve either met in advance or been introduced to as part of our team model. Our system is designed to make sure you are never left without support, even in the rare event of illness, emergency, or overlapping births.

Do you take insurance?

While doula care is not always covered by insurance, some families are able to receive reimbursement through their HSA/FSA or insurance providers. We’re happy to provide the documentation you need to submit for potential reimbursement. We also offer payment plans and can discuss options during your consultation.

I’m not sure if I can afford doula support. What are my options?

We’re committed to access and equity. While we don’t offer a sliding scale for every service, we do offer payment plans, package options, and occasional scholarship availability. Reach out and let’s talk about what might be possible for you.

How do I get started?

Start with a free consultation. We’ll talk about your needs, walk you through what working with us looks like, and help you decide if we’re the right fit. No pressure, no rush, just support from the very beginning.

About

Birth is not a service. It’s not a trend. It’s a deeply human, deeply personal experience. And it deserves care that is rooted in presence, trust, and real relationship.
